What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy helps you to express your thoughts and feelings and explore what comes up when you do. Psychotherapists are usually trained to work with people over a longer-term period. They specialise in working adults or children, couples, groups and families. Psychotherapy can help you to improve your mental health, overcome social or emotional challenges, and fulfil your potential.

What is Psychotherapy Good For?

Psychotherapy can help not only alleviate difficulties someone is experiencing, but can help identify the root causes of one’s experiences so a person can function better and have enhanced emotional well-being and healing. Psychotherapy can help coping with stressful life events, the impact of trauma or loss such as the death of a loved one; and specific mental health conditions.

What to expect from your session?

People often wonder what psychotherapists do. Psychotherapists are trained to listen and ask questions, but do not usually tell you what to do. This might feel difficult to begin with, but your therapist is there to support you to open up and guide the process.

Psychotherapists are registered with the UKCP and are committed to their standards of professional practice. It is worth checking their register before you make an appointment with a therapist. All of the psychotherapists at the Dawn Lister Therapy Centre and qualified and registered, if you would like to meet with a psychotherapist, please check the list of practitioners here or if you would like to know more contact us
