Massage Therapy
What is Massage Therapy?
For centuries we have understood the importance of touch as a healing tool. For comfort, for support, to heal, and create a sense of being at home in our body.
With life's many challenges it is possible to become very disconnected and stuck in our head, in our thinking minds. Massage has the ability to give us a sense of embodiment. A feeling of being at peace and safe within ourselves.
What is Massage Therapy good for?
Relaxation, emotional regulation, general wellbeing, recovery from injury and some surgeries. Chronic Fatigue, pre and post pregnancy, menopause, migraines, jaw pain, swelling due to lymphedema or post surgery to remove lymph nodes. To support a physical training programme.
What are the types of massage available?
Lymphatic Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, is a gentle form of massage used to relieve painful swelling in your arms and legs caused by Lymphoedema. The lymphatic system is a network of channels and glands throughout the body that helps fight infection and remove excess fluids.
Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms of legs. It develops when the lymphatic system does not work properly.
You may need multiple sessions for lymphatic drainage to be effective. Your therapist will be able to advise on a case by case basis.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is proven to release and reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation and encourage the removal of waste products such as lactic acid during high intensity activity and can help to relax the body. All of this helps promote recovery and reduces the chance of muscle injury.
You may need multiple sessions for a particular issue. Regular massage helps to avoid ongoing injuries. And to keep the body in a balanced state.
